The exact origin of the plum tree that is cultivated in the West today (the domestic plum) is not known. It seems, however, that it is the result of a cross between several European and Asian species dating back thousands of years. The plum has been a real success in Europe since the Middle Ages and even more since the Renaissance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Did you know that the prune is actually a dried plum? The term &#8220;prune&#8221;, which appeared in the French language in 1265, comes from the popular Latin<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> prunum<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. \u201cPrune\u201d, which designates the dried plum, appeared much later, around 1507.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><u>Purchase<\/u><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The fully ripe plum should give way under light pressure and be soft at the tip. Firmer fruits will finish ripening on the counter. Avoid buying fruit that is too hard, as it may never reach its full flavor. Choose undamaged fruit.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><u>Preservation<\/u><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Store plums at room temperature if they are not fully ripe. Store them in the refrigerator for a few days when they are ready. To freeze them, remove its core.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><u>Preparation<\/u><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Take out your plums a few hours before eating them so that they regain their full flavor and juiciness. Cut them up and add them to your favorite dishes.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><u>Nutritional Values<\/u><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The plum has a high nutritional density in minerals and trace elements: it is rich in antioxidants, vitamin C, iron and magnesium.
