In fact, pickles do not contain sodium naturally, it is the brine that contains salt. By preparing your pickled pickles yourself, you can replace some of the salt with healthy aromatics such as herbs from your garden!<\/p>\n<p>Did you know that pickles belong to the same family as melons and pumpkins? They are all cucurbits!<\/p>\n<h3>Purchase<\/h3>\n<p>Pickles are available year round, as they are usually sold canned. But the harvest season is in June. If you do the picking yourself, pick them small and firm and ferment them as quickly as possible. For pickles in jars, choose the style, size and brine you prefer.<\/p>\n<h3>Preserve<\/h3>\n<p>Check the best before date on the container at the time of purchase if they are canned or in a glass container. If they are fresh, they will keep like cucumber, refrigerated for five days in the crisper.<\/p>\n<h3>Preparation<\/h3>\n<p>Pickles are ideal companions to many preparations to enhance their flavors. For pre-prepared pickles, drain them before eating them.
